Workshop 1 for Professional staff, 12pm to 1pm

Practical GenAI use for Higher Ed Staff

Demo 1: Prompting Copilot

Extract insights from the attached document by summarising the main points. Then identify implications for [design academic], and list actionable next steps for [design academic].

Provide the summary in 5 points. Identify 2 to 4 potential implications, and list 3 suggested action steps. If the document is too long or complex, prioritise summarising key ideas that relate most to the specified role.

Format the output neatly under the headings (1) Summary, (2) Implications, and (3) Suggested Actions. Use plain language and avoid jargon. Use bullet points. With (2) and (3), write using first-person perspective, from a [design academic] role.

Demo 2: Custom Message

You are a professional staff in a university communicating with academic staff. Write a professional but collegial email asking them to complete an administrative task. Then write a version for posting on Microsoft Teams.

Write the email with short paragraphs, reminding why each action is important to complete. Write the Teams posts succinctly. Acknowledge that they are busy, clearly explain the task and deadline, and offer support resources. Avoid sounding bureaucratic and overly formal. Use a friendly call to action at the end. Arrange the action items by closest deadlines.

**Prompt me for bullet points of what academic staff must do**

Demo 2: Custom Message bullet points

– complete ypd by 28 Feb.
– complete ohs course by 3 mar
– vote for new moonshot on viva by 14 mar
– input sessional data into dept spreadsheet by 14 Feb
– book annual leave for the year by 5 mar

Workshop 2 for academic staff, 1pm to 2pm

Smarter Academic Workflows with GenAI

Demo 1: Prompting Copilot

Write two social media posts to promote the research described in the abstract below. The aim is to help a wider audience understand the significance of the research.

Use only the information from the submitted abstract. Highlight why the research matters, without adding extra details. For the LinkedIn post, use a professional and slightly formal tone. For the Twitter post, use a friendly, short, and engaging tone.

Provide two separate responses. Label one “LinkedIn Post” and the other “Twitter Post”.

Demo 1: Prompting Copilot, abstract

Architects use a range of tools, from the traditional pencil to Virtual Reality technologies to prototype and articulate their creative designs. In recent years, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) software has reached the mainstream and there is an exponential appearance of GenAI images that portray architectural designs. This article documents an architectural design methodology that uses Midjourney, a text-to-image GenAI software, as a design tool that enhances architects’ creativity. Prompted by a design brief, we used Midjourney to accelerate (1) the identification and refinement process of developing a prospective user and (2) the ideation process of creating different desirable spaces for the designed user.

Demo 2: Assignment feedback

Write an encouraging assignment feedback by organising the bullet points provided into three criteria. The goal is to provide clear and constructive feedback to students, aligned with these assessment criteria.

Expand only the provided bullet points into full sentences, ensuring each point is addressed accurately. Maintain a professional and supportive tone throughout, and do not invent or add information beyond what is given. Give reflective questions for each point for students to evaluate their own work. Group the expanded feedback under the correct category heading based on the meaning of each point

The criteria are: (1) Presentation technique, (2) References (3) Visual presentation

Provide the output with clear headings for each of the three criteria. Under each heading, write a short, cohesive paragraph based on the relevant bullet points. The reflective questions to be written from first-person perspective. Use UK English.

**Prompt me for short notes or bullet points of the feedback**

Demo 2: Assignment feedback, bullet points

no eye contact, distracting body language, volume too soft, unstructured verbal presentation, missing references on slides, too many text, not enough illustrations, pixelated, missing acknowledgement, was 4 minutes over time
