About me

You can see what I’ve done by downloading my CV. Or better yet, get to know me by looking at snapshots of my life below 🙂
1988 - 2004
Growing up
- in Singapore
-
Not much to say here, except I was always an inquisitive kid interested in understanding how everything works. Aside from the usual school education, I also studied piano, karate, martial arts, roller blading, design and technology, chemistry and web design (even when the internet was not a big thing back then).
2005
Came over to Melbourne, Australia
- to study at Trinity College Foundation Studies
- At the age of 17, I came over to Melbourne to study a pre-university course. During this time, I made friends with people from different countries, explored my creative side as a musician, and almost chose to study as a psychologist!
2006 - 2008
Trained as an Air Force Lieutenant
- at the Republic of Singapore Air Force
- I went back to Singapore and completed my compulsory national service, where I trained as a basic military combatant, an officer cadet and finished as an airforce lieutenant. During this time, my duties were to coordinate military operations and optimise operation efficiencies.
2008 - 2010
Studied Bachelor of Environments (Architecture)
- at the University of Melbourne
- I studied architecture and was obsessed with simplicity, system designs and fabrication technology. I had the privilege to study overseas at the University of Stuttgart in Germany, where I was constantly surrounded by inspiring architecture.
2011 - 2012
Studied Master of Architecture
- at the University of Melbourne
- While completing my Master’s degree, I worked in an architecture firm, a fabrication laboratory and also taught design at the undergraduate level. I again had the privilege to study overseas, this time at TU Delft in Netherlands, and was surrounded by some of the most forward-thinking and innovative designers I have ever met.
2013 - 2014
Worked as a maker, designer, and tutor
- I stepped away from the usual path of finding a job, to reflect and learn more about what I wanted to do. So I started my consultancy practice to explore a range of projects. During this time, I’ve built an automated project management system for a fabrication lab, designed multiple architecture projects, taught architecture and design, and even worked on installation piece displayed at the 2015 World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
2015 - 2016
Worked as the digital fabrication coordinator
- at the University of Melbourne
- The Melbourne School of Design was moving into a new building, and there was an exciting opportunity to help set up the digital fabrication laboratory. By optimising its operational efficiencies, I expanded the fabrication services to serve researchers in other faculties and designers from the community.
2017
Took time off
- to travel and reflect
- It was again time for a reflective break, and to find new experiences. So I travelled, delved deeper into the entrepreneurship scene and revisited my consulting business. My curiosity led me to develop a PhD research proposal, which was approved and I was accepted on a scholarship at the Swinburne University of Technology.
2018 - ongoing
Completing my PhD studies
- at Swinburne University of Technology
- As of the start of 2021, I’m writing up my dissertation on the high-performing architecture teams, which you can read more here. Unsurprisingly, I’ve also been working on a range of different projects, such as designing architectural works, teaching design, running innovation workshops and even helping firms build research capabilities within their offices.
Future
Working on…
- at…
- I am excited by projects that require new ways of thinking and doing. I bring my range of design and operational experience and expertise into every project I do. Would you like to work with me?
